Friday October 4th was an extremely special day in our school, Monivea village and parish. We celebrated the official opening of our state of the art new school building. It was great to see the huge crowd that gathered. It was also very special to have the Archbishop of Tuam Michael Neary present and to perform a blessing and address the crowd. Past pupil, Special Olympic gold medal winner and volunteer in the school Áine McDermott officially opened the building. A big thanks to Past Parent Tommy Devane who did MC on the day and thank you also to all the parents that turned up and provided beautiful baking and refreshments. A special thanks to the fundraising committee parents for all their help. Well done to all the children that performed and read poems on the day, they were fantastic!
It was great to have past and present Board of Managements, past principals Ann Cooke and Denis Lally also present, they along with parents in the past have helped greatly towards achieving our new school. We are in the school 8 months now and we have fabulous facilities for the children and staff, it was a long wait and we are grateful for everything done over the years to make our new school a reality. A big thanks again to the Board of Management, Staff, Parents and Pupils who have helped us to reach this target. Your help in the last few years of building and moving into the premises is much appreciated.
